Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

August 14, 2007

Ever tried to have a snack before bed without waking up the beagles with your kitchen noise? Of course you have! In the spectrum of selective hearing, with "stop sniffing and get in here now" on one end, kitchen noise is all the way at the other. Sometimes I'll be upstairs reading in bed with Spenser snoring at my feet when all of a sudden he springs awake, cocks his head and is OFF, running downstairs as fast as he can to join Phillip in a snack. He even knows the difference between real food and Diet Mt. Dew noises, which of course he ignores like any reasonable dog or human should. I get up before Phillip on weekdays and after I feed the boys they go back upstairs to snooze. If I don't pack my lunch the night before, then the food noises cause much commotion upstairs resulting in Phillip being woken, which isn't good. So I try to be quiet. Sometimes when I pour cereal in a bag for a breakfast at work I go so far as to bring the box and baggie into the bathroom off the kitchen, close the door and turn on the faucet to drown out the kitchen noises and let Phillip sleep. Yes, I do feel silly. Very silly. But I bet I'm not the only one!
